The upper lip elongates as we age. The short pouty everted lip of youth is replaced with a longer straighter upper lip causing loss of upper tooth show. With the mouth open in a rested position there should be around 2 mm of visible upper tooth show. Removal of a few millimeters of skin with the scar hidden under the nose allows for restoration of upper tooth show and a more youthful shorter and everted upper lip
